The Far East Area Commission began in the Spring of 2010 with a group of community activists consisting of neighborhood block watch coordinators and civic association leaders who serve the Far East Side of Columbus, Ohio.  The group was concerned with the decline of businesses, inadequate city services, rising crime and rapid residential growth.  The commission was sworn in on March 5, 2012 as the 17th Area Commission in the City of Columbus.

What is an Area Commission?

Area Commissions are comprised of a group of voluntary citizens elected to serve a represented area. We are a liaison between city officials, neighborhood groups, property owners, residents and developers, in an effort to advocate, promote, sustain and improve our community.

What do Area Commissions do?

- Facilitate communication, understanding and cooperation with neighborhood groups, city officials and developers.

- Create plans and policies which serve as guidelines for future development in the area.

- Bring the problems and needs of the area to the attention of government agencies.

- Recommend solutions or legislation.

- Facilitate events and programs to serve the area.

- Promote and sustain our community.
